I painted on hemp paper that had been stretched over a wooden frame using watercolors.

It had been over 20 years since I last used Japanese watercolors, back when my father returned to Japan from Hawaii for cancer surgery.

It all started when, after the surgery was successful and while waiting for my US visa to be approved, my mother suggested I try painting.

I bought some Kichijo Gansai paints at an art supply store in Kanazawa and was painting.

Popo's garden is the view that unfolds when you open the door to Nuuanu's cottage, where she painted in Hawaii.

The garden was meticulously cultivated by the landlord's mother, Popo.

A dazzling light still spreads within me.
