I painted the Kotoji Lantern in Kenrokuen Garden.

This stone lantern has become a symbolic presence in Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa City.

It was named that because its shape resembles the "kotoji," the bridge that supports the strings of a koto (Japanese zither).

If I were to wander around Kenrokuen Garden and try to find a spot that really catches my eye, I would choose this location without hesitation, with the Kotoji Lantern on the far right of my field of vision.

Starting with the koto-shaped lantern, a perfect composition unfolds before the viewer's eyes.

I drew it in the shape of a vase, 360 degrees around.
