In 2025, when I held my first solo exhibition at "Manabi no Mori Nonoichi Kaleido," I thought I might as well paint various scenes of Nonoichi, where Kaleido is located, and so I created the Nonoichi series. This is one of those paintings, depicting the Hokkoku Kaido road, which retains the streetscape of the Edo period, with the important cultural property "Kitaka Residence" diagonally across the street.

This local history museum has an unusual design, with the exterior resembling a townhouse and the interior a farmhouse. Stepping inside through the old wooden door, you'll find a cafe called "Nono Soba." A sip of "Shōjō," a famous sake from the former sake brewery of Kitaya, is delicious and offered at a reasonable price. After finishing my soba and feeling quite pleased, I was treated to a homemade dessert.

They serve coffee, and it's a space that makes you want to come back again, all within a house dating back to the late Edo period.
