A landscape of Gokyozuka in Nonoichi City.
The rows of houses are reflected in the water-filled rice paddies.
It creates a strange feeling in your mind, as if you were seeing a mirage.
This painting was particularly well-received by the people living in Nonoichi at an exhibition held at Kaleido in 2025.
"When Kiyoshi paints it, familiar scenery looks like it's from a foreign country."
I didn't draw it with that in mind; it just ended up looking like this when I finished, but now that you mention it, it does look like a landscape from somewhere in Europe.
The shadow reflected on the water in the foreground is strongly depicted with oil pastels.
Although it disrupts the structure of the picture, when the whole thing comes together neatly, it becomes the source of a strong feeling.
