Like "Kaga Renkon," this "Gorojima Kintoki" also originated in the Edo period.

It is said that the origin of this dish dates back to when Tarouemon of Gorojima Village brought back seed potatoes from Satsuma. Actually, Gorojima is not that far from Uchinada Town where I live.

Grown in sandy soil, "Gorojima Kintoki" sweet potatoes are characterized by their firm, chestnut-like texture and a refined, rich sweetness.

Roasted sweet potatoes are especially delicious, so I wrap them in aluminum foil and roast them slowly in my Aladdin oven at 170 degrees Celsius. The same goes for stone-roasted sweet potatoes; this temperature brings out the sweetness of the sweet potato best.

The painting of "Gorojima Kintoki" makes him look like a dignified lady standing proudly.
