Ishikawa Bridge connects Kenrokuen Garden and the Ishikawa Gate of Kanazawa Castle.

This painting depicts a scene below Kenrokuen Garden, with Kanazawa Castle in the upper right and Kenrokuen Garden in the upper left.

I have several favorite angles that capture Kanazawa, and this is one of them.

As you pass under the Ishikawa Bridge, the green of the trees rises gently towards the sky. If you stroll down, you'll find a row of cherry trees flanked by the Shiinoki Guest House and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.

This is the first painting to use a picture frame, and it possesses a strength that rivals the frame itself.
