When I paint flowers, I don't carefully draw each petal and leaf. I paint them quickly and all at once.

First, I begin the process of absorbing the strength, suppleness, and of course, the beauty inherent in the flower itself. I gaze at it intently. Once the flower's life force has entered me, I begin to paint.

This hydrangea painting was created by first swirling a pen around the flower to capture its vibrant life force, and then using Sennelier oil pastels, I drew on the paper by tapping it.

Up close, the image is so bold that it's hard to tell what's depicted, but from a distance, it strangely looks exactly like a hydrangea.

Hydrangeas are said to be native to Japan. They possess a certain modesty.
