Asakawa Maki, the singer who clad herself in black and continued to walk her own solitary path as the queen of the underground.

He is from Ishikawa Prefecture, just like me.

When I was younger, I had this image in my mind of a dark figure standing motionless on a pier with his hands in his pockets.

It was as if I had hesitated to venture into a dimly lit alleyway, and had never properly confronted it, but more than 20 years after returning from Hawaii, when I started painting again, Maki Asakawa's voice deeply seeped into me.

Maki Asakawa is no longer here.

I wanted to try drawing the Maki Asakawa that I have in my mind.

It's still a world of black and white.
