I had always wanted to paint a Hawaiian hula dancer, but nothing really clicked. Then, one day, I had a sudden inspiration to paint her in silhouette against a sunset. Without any preliminary sketch, I simply checked how the brushstrokes would look and painted it in one continuous stroke. It's a painting I could never paint again.
