 The dignified figure of Sofia Calhain, who turned professional longboarder at the tender age of 14. She's from Waikiki, and the place where she's standing on the rocks is also Waikiki. This painting was inspired by her, but I wasn't trying to make her look exactly like her, nor was I focusing on the scenery. As I put the brush to the paper, I realized I was painting a goddess of the sea. So I focused on her inner strength and resilience. Like the waves crashing against the rocks, they seemed to reach all the way to the sky.

 The framing by Takayo Kawasaki is also wonderful. The light blue mat has cutouts. It's very elegant, and the frame evokes the image of waves.
