 The nighttime view from Tantalus Hill, known as the "million-dollar night view."

 From here, you can see the entire city of Honolulu, downtown, the buildings of Waikiki, Diamond Head, and even the ocean beyond. Gold and orange lights intersect and sparkle. This is the light that is being captured.

 When you look at the painting up close, it's so nonsensical that you can't tell what's depicted, but when you look at it from a distance, the space within it comes to life clearly and vividly—it's truly不思議 (mysterious).

 Kawasaki Kiyomi's framing is exceptionally elegant, yet it also conveys a sense of time and history.
